(posted 10/26/01) "Hey Rob- Put this lampshade on your head." Now that's comedy. If this film is perhaps a little less polished than most of those on this site, it's because it's a smaller project from earlier in his film school career. But, I think it's a pretty good sample of the budding genius of a young Kevin Roache. Some of us have to build a sense of humor over our lives, accumulating a sense of what's funny and what's not through extensive Comedy Central viewing and various other sources: friends, family, movies, books, comics. Then there's people like Kevin Roache. I don't know how it would occur to anyone that a movie about the supposed rival of Alexander Graham Bell would be a good idea, but here you have it. It's refreshing, these days, when it seems like original humor is getting rarer and rarer, at least in the mass media (am I getting old?), to have somebody with this kind of ideas. Where do they come from? I haven't a clue. And, Kevin seems to have found a muse in Rob, with whom he's collaborated on countless, into the teens at least, filmic efforts so far. You will also find these two gentlemen at Hypnotic.com with the long-running "Virtual Rob Show", currently on hiatus, but back, Kevin assures me, in a couple of weeks. |
